Paris Paralympics 2024

ree

⏪ Throwback to this time last year:

I was at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. An unforgettable experience.

The first game I saw was wheelchair basketball (USA vs Spain). The energy in the Arena was electric ⚡ — music, noise, excitement everywhere. The Paralympics took place just two weeks after the Olympics, and I’d expected the buzz to have faded. But I was proven wrong; stadiums were packed, crowds were still pouring in, and it felt like the place to be.

I even got the chance to see wheelchair tennis, fencing, swimming, athletics. All the team sports competitions have a method that groups athletes based on their impairment and how it can impact performance. Every team then needs to create a line-up in a way so that no side has an "advantage"... ensuring results come down to skill, strategy, and teamwork. I knew about this classification process, but seeing it live was fascinating. An absolute masterclass in how to level the playing field. 🎓

Beyond the events, I thought Paris delivered really well 🇫🇷. Venues, transport, signage, even restaurants had visible enhancements, easier mobility. Businesses leaned in too — from showcasing adaptive products to inclusive retail displays like mannequins in wheelchairs. So powerful, it's this kind of investment that nudges the system forward.

The next one in LA in 2028, aims to set the bar higher and have the most inclusive 'games for all' yet. 🌍

Happy to hear your take!
