Jyotish (Vedic astrology) is the traditional astrology of India. It uses the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars, and gives special weight to your Lagna (Ascendant) and your Chandra Rashi (Moon sign).

Most Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is tied to the seasons. The two zodiacs are now about 24° apart. So your Vedic Sun or Moon sign is often one sign earlier than your Western one.
