Shalini Saran

Photographer | Born 1951, New Delhi, India

Shalini Saran is a self-taught photographer whose work documents Indian life, architecture, and abstract form. Her photographs have been widely published and exhibited internationally. She lives and works in New Delhi.
Born in 1951. She worked as a travel writer and photographer for over two decades, and her photographs and articles have been widely published. Around 2000, she gradually focused her attention towards photographing abstract compositions—in scrapyards, granite quarries and shipyards. She participated in 'Pratibimba', an exhibition sent to the Pushkin Museum, Moscow, for the Festival of India, and then to India House, London, receiving two awards on the occasion. Later, she began exploring the possibilities of digital drawings. She has exhibited her photographs in solo and group shows, and held a solo exhibition of her digital drawings. In the late '90s, her work gravitated towards the non-representational. She has now been working with oil pastels for a few years.
